Scattering:-

  • The scattering in the fiber occurs due to the difference in the composition of core and cladding materials which results in to physical properties of core and cladding.
  • When the fiber is fabricated it is in molten stage. Hence, Fiber is cooled by applying the tensile strength which results in to development of cracks on core cladding interference, Inhomogeneity in the physical dimension of the fiber which results in to change in the direction of modes. Hence, The energy of one mode may transfer in to other and there may be change in the angle of incidence which results in to inhibition of the mode. Hence, which results in to attenuation of mode. This process is known as Scattering of energy.
  • Which is random process because the inhomogenities are random in nature.
  • Relay Scattering which is dependent on the wavelength of operation is a Random Scattering which occurs if the size of inhomogeneity is small as compared to the wavelength of light.
