- Bending loss is of two types which can occur due to difference in contraction rates between the core and cladding because the material used for fabricating core and cladding of the fiber is different which creates inhomogeneity at imperfection in the fiber.
- When the light interacts with there imperfection the part of electric field enters in to fiber cladding and decreases exponentially. This field is known as Evanescent field which tries to move faster in the cladding and get lost there and such kind of bend are known as Micro-bends because the size of bend is very small as compared to the wavelength of operation and the Radius of curvature of is dependent on wavelength of operation.
NOTE:- Micro-bends are difficult to rectify because they are random in nature and depends on the wavelength of operation and refractive index of core and cladding. But independent of physical dimension of Fiber.
Micro-bends:-
- These are constant radius bends which occurs due to fault in handling on installation due to application of excessive tension. These are non-harmful bends because they are temporary.
